How do I apply ?
  • Select ‘Apply Now’ on the website and you will be guided through the process. For any questions, you can contact admissions@thedigs.co.za.
  • Email confirmation will be sent once the application has been reviewed.
What documents do I need to have ready with my application?
  • ID copy of applicant and guarantor
  • Proof of residence (e.g. rates bill)
  • Guarantors’ 3 month bank statement/ payslip
  • Proof of enrolment
  • Bursary confirmation letter, where applicable
How do I view a room or book a tour?
  • Visit the ‘Choose Your Digs’ page on our website and select the room you would like to view. You will then be asked to fill in some personal information and select a date and time to view the room.
  • The Digs 1 address is 40 Dunbar Street, Klipkop, Parow. NB – Please note that the entrance to The Digs is in Dunbar Street – Google Maps often leads you to Francie van Zijl Drive where The Digs can only be accessed by a pedestrian gate. What is included in the accommodation and services fee?
  • Rooms fully furnished with bed, mattress, desk, chair, BIC, block out blinds and a fridge connection (fridge not provided, you may bring your own)
  • Secure premises (Electric fence, access control, 24-hour security guarding, HD CCTV cameras)
  • Water and electricity (subject to reasonable use)
  • Free 1000 mg free uncapped Wi-Fi
  • Laundry facilities
  • On-site tuck-shop
  • Braai and outdoor seating area
  • Games area
  • Quiet study area
  • Shared lounges and dining areas
  • Cleaning services for communal areas

 

What room types are available, and can I book a specific room?
  • Visit the ‘Choose Your Digs’ tab on the website. We have three buildings to choose from, each catering to different needs and budgets. Availability can be seen under this tab.
  • Specific rooms are not always available, however you may request via the online application.
How do I know my application has been received?

We will notify you via email for the next steps.

How do I know a room has definitely been allocated to me?

We will notify you via email.

Who can stay?

We accommodate both undergrad and postgrad medical and health science students.

How are the rooms allocated?
  • We operate on a first come first serve basis and rooms are allocated on availability.
  • We reserve the right to decline any application. Preference is given to applicants with good payment and disciplinary records.
Is there parking available?

We have secure parking available for R350/month.

What happens if I decide to cancel my application?

Should you choose to cancel your application, your R500 administration fee will be forfeited.

What happens if I decide to cancel my lease?

If a tenant requests to terminate or cancel their lease early. The tenant will incur a three month penalty and an advertising cost of 30% of one month’s rental. Please note that if a suitable replacement is found, then your account will be credited accordingly.

What fees are payable with my application?

An initial R500 administration fee is payable. Refer to the application form for details.

What fees are payable before I occupy my room?
  • Upfront payments: Annual fees and deposit are payable prior to occupation.
  • Instalments: First instalment and deposit is payable prior to occupation.

When can I check-in?

Check in will be from 2 Jan 2024.

How do I book my check-in appointment?

Accommodation/ Services Agreement

What is the length of the accommodation agreement?

12 months from 2 January to 15 December, in line with the academic year.

What security does The Digs have?

We take security very seriously and have the following measures in place:

    • 24 Hour security personnel monitoring the premises.
    • 24 Hour on-site residence manager.
    • HD CCTV Cameras and electric fencing throughout the perimeter of the property.
    • The Digs security is in radio contact with the Tygerberg Campus security.
What should I bring?
  • Linen, pillow and blankets / duvet’s – all beds are single size.
  • Kitchen utensils, cups, glasses, plates, pots and pans.
  • Towels and toiletries
  • Study lamp
What am I not allowed to bring?
  • No Weapons
  • No Illegal Drugs
  • No Alcohol
  • No Pets
  • No Flammable Items
  • No bar heaters
  • No hookahs
How do I get post or deliveries – courier?
  • If you are in The Digs 1: Please arrange deliveries to 40 Dunbar Street
  • If you are in The Digs 2 or 3: Please arrange deliveries to 46 Elmwood Street
Does The Digs have on-site laundry facilities?

On-site facilities are available.

Does The Digs provide me with meals?
  • No, The Digs does not provide meals. Communal kitchens are fully equipped a stove/hob, fridge, air fryer, kettle, toaster and microwave.
  • We have an on-site tuck shop where you can buy meals.
Does The Digs have a shuttle?

The Digs offers a free shuttle to the Tygerberg Campus as well as a shuttle to the UWC main campus at a small additional fee per month.

How do I report maintenance issues?

You must login to the student portal on the website and select ‘Log a fault’. Follow the prompts until the fault has been submitted.

Is there a code of conduct?

Yes, please familiarise yourself with the code of conduct which will be provided during the application process.

Who do I contact in an emergency?

We have an on-site residence manager who is contactable at any time for emergencies – Laura (072) 116 3684, or you may contact the security team on-site on 066 517 1692.

Are there rules regarding noise?

Yes, this is covered in the code of conduct. No noise is allowed between 22:00 and 08:00

Can I invite friends over?

Yes, this is covered in the code of conduct – you are responsible for your friends while they are on the premises and to make sure that they also adhere to the code of conduct.

Is smoking allowed?

Smoking is strictly prohibited inside any of The Digs buildings.

Check-out

When do I need to check-out?

The lease will terminate on 15 December 2024. Please ensure all belongings are removed from the property.

How does the check-out inspection work?

The on-site residence manager will conduct an inspection with you prior to checking out. If you are not present for the inspection, we will advise you of the outcome of the inspection.

Must I attend the check-out inspection?

It is important that you attend the check-out inspection in order to sign the necessary documents that will ultimately lead to your deposit being refunded or not.

When will my deposit be refunded?

Your deposit will be refunded within 14 days of you signing the check-out inspection form provided that your room is returned in satisfactory condition.
